Macquarie hires for Asian corporate finance

14 February 2006

Macquarie Bank, the Australian investment bank, has boosted its Chinese corporate finance business with two hires at managing director level.

Robert Xie, managing director and chairman of the private equity group at BOC International, an investment banking subsidiary of the Bank of China, joins Macquarie as a managing director and head of private equity.

He will focus on private equity advisory work and general business development in the greater China region.

Barbara Zhang, a former head of Deutsche Bank's Chinese investment banking group, joins Macquarie as a managing director focusing on telecoms and utilities.

Macquarie did not disclose when Zhang left Deutsche Bank. She previously worked at Goldman Sachs and Bear Stearns.

Both will report to Andrew Low, head of corporate finance Asia at Macquarie.
